THE Government will spend K205, 000 towards the construction of a house for a 23-year-old female who is physically handicapped and living with her grandmother in Kansuswa Township in Mufulira.
Mufulira district commissioner Chanda Kabwe said in a statement yesterday that Jenny Chola’s house would be constructed under an initiative by the district administrative office aimed at identifying vulnerable people and helping them by any means possible.
Mr Kabwe said Jenny was forced to drop out of school in Grade 10 as she had difficulties walking to Kantanshi Secondary School and her sponsors were equally facing financial constraints and in the process, stopped paying for her education.
“About K50, 000 has been raised towards the construction of the house for Jenny so that she can have a better life as she and her grandmother were grateful to receive the gesture,” he said.
Mr Kabwe said the Mufulira Municipal Council had already allocated a portion of land for the house, next to Eagle Secondary School along the Kitwe-Mufulira Highway.
He said the Government would ensure that Jenny goes back to school and completes Tertiary education.
“Future plans are underway to create an Education Trust Fund for Jenny that will enable her to achieve her dreams and become a responsible citizen for the benefit of the nation,” Mr Kabwe said.
Mr Kabwe said Government is determined to uplift the standards of the people living with disabilities by empowering them with income generating activities and life survival skills.
