THE Ndola Golf Club has intensified its recruitment drive with a view of strengthening the sport on the grassroots.
Ndola Golf Club vice captain Clavel Nguluta said in an interview yesterday that the club had embarked on a junior programme aimed at providing a sustainable platform for future prospects of young golfers.
Nguluta bemoaned the low number of junior golfers at the club which he said had resulted in the club lacking participants for junior tournaments.
He said the club had, therefore, decided to lay a strong foundation with the young golfers between the ages of seven to 15 years.
Nguluta said the club was targeting youths between seven to 15 years of age and were hoping for a positive outcome from the community at large.
“The club has always suffered during major tournaments over the past three years due to lapses in as far as the strengthening of grassroots is concerned; hence we need more than 50 juniors to build up better future.
This sport will help youths to be morally upright because it restrains youths from indulging in bad vices,” Nguluta said.
Nguluta appealed to parents and guardians to encourage their children to register with the club.
He said the aim of the recruitment programme was aimed at producing effective golfers who will become future stars for the country.
