THE Zambia Squash Association (ZSA) has so far raised K80,000 towards hosting of the 2014 Zambia Open Championship slated for October 30 to November 2 in Lusaka.
ZSA general secretary Clancy Chauluka said the association was delighted that 80 per cent of the budget has been raised in time for the tournament.
The Zambia Squash Open Championship comes back to the courts after almost a decade of absence owing to poor attendance.
Chauluka said the association was now targeting to meet the K20,000 deficit before the championship takes centre stage.
“We would like to express our gratitude to the sponsors for the positive response that they have rendered to the association,” he said.
He said the squash body was targeting about 50 entries from the local and international players, who would compete in the knock out format draw.
Chauluka said Botswana and South Africa are the two countries that have so far confirmed their participation while Egypt, Namibia and Kenya were yet to send confirmations.
“We are still receiving entries as the tournament draws closer and we are determined to stage a successful competition,” he said.
