THE Auditor General’s office is finalising a Memorandum of?Understanding (MoU) with the office of the Zambia Public Procurement?Authority (ZPPA) to allow the former monitor large procurement?contracts.?
Auditor General Anna Chifungula said in Washington DC in the United?States (US) that her office would soon sign an MoU with ZPPA which would?empower the AG’s office to monitor large procurements.?
This is according to a statement by First Secretary for Press and?Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy to the US, Patricia?Littiya.?
Ms Chifungula said when she called on Zambia’s Ambassador to the US Palan Mulonda on Tuesday that once signed, the MoU would enable her office inspect and monitor large contracts to ensure they conformed to laid-down regulations.?
Currently, the office of Auditor General has agreements with three security wings, The Zambia Police, The Drug Enforcement Commission and the Anti-corruption Commission.?
Ms Chifungula is in Washington DC, to attend a meeting organised by the working group on money laundering and corruption.?
The meeting is being held under the auspices of the US General Accountability Office.?
Ms Chifungula said the meeting was aimed at coming up with strategies on combating fraud, money laundering and corruption.?
She said the meeting would set standards of fighting the vices in the member countries.?The international working group comprises 23 countries, with eight coming from Africa.?
In welcoming the Auditor General, Mr Mulonda thanked Ms Chifungula for calling on the mission in Washington DC.
