THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is targeting the participation of young people in the fight against corruption.
Eastern Province ACC Regional Manager Raymond Banda said during the school clubs end of year review and planning conference held in Chipata at the weekend that young people, especially those in school, had an important role to play in fighting corruption.
“Therefore, the Anti-Corruption Legislation, the Ant-Corruption Act number 3 of 2012 mandates the ACC to involve young people in schools in the fight against corruption,” Mr Banda said.
He said in a speech read for him by ACC senior community evaluation officer George Kanguya that the commission had the responsibility to encourage the formation of anti corruption school clubs.
Mr Banda said the commission was determined to lead the way towards a corruption free society by incorporating learning institutions which are some of the key partners.
He said the formation of Anti-Corruption school clubs was anchored on the basis of promoting awareness on the dangers of corruption and to foster vigilance against it at personal level amongst pupils and teachers.
He said the commission was eager to work with teachers and pupils because pupils were in their formative and productive years.
Speaking at the same event, Chipata District Education Board Secretary Kezias Lungu said if corruption was allowed to take root in the Ministry of Education, examination malpractices would be the order of the day.
