THE Sports Council of Zambia has announced that it will hold its long-awaited annual general meeting (AGM) next month.
SCZ acting general secretary Innocent Chalabesa at a media briefing held at National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka yesterday said that Council’s AGM would finally be held in November this year after all requirements were met.
Chalabesa said that the delay to hold the AGM was brought about as the SCZ was clearing the backlog of financial reports dating way back to 2009.
“We normally should hold our meeting between March and September but we had to clear up the books of accounts from as way back a 2009. But we are happy to state that we have all books done and audited.
We now are looking at a three-week constitutional requirement to circulate the documents so early November, we should have the AGM. So I am calling upon those associations that have the AGMs before ours,” he said.
Chalabesa has since urged associations that had not yet held their AGM’s to do so before the SCZ indaba was held and also advised associations facing challenges with the accounts to contact the SCZ for assistance.
Meanwhile, Chalabesa said the SCZ was pleased with the steps taken by the interim committee of the Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) to normalise the messy situation the engulfed the union.
“We have held talks with the interim committee and we are happy that they are making steps to stabilise the union. They have called an emergency meeting and that is very good,” he said.
