VETERAN driver Muna Singh has called for increased investment in young drivers to secure a bright future for Zambia’s motorsport.
Muna, who is also Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) technical adviser, said in an interview that the country had immense talent in upcoming drivers who were capable of winning more silverware for the country.
The two-time African champion said he was happy with the growth of the sport, adding that recent national rally championships had witnessed a swelling number of entries.
He said if more resources were channelled towards the sponsoring of drivers in local and international championships, Zambia motorsport would reach greater heights.
“As drivers, we have been consistent in bringing glory to the country as we have won a lot of international trophies than any other sport and so I think there is need to invest in young drivers.
“Young drivers are the future of motor sport. One of the challenges we face are finances and I think if more resources are committed to the sport especially in young ones, they will exceed the achievements we have made in the past,” Singh said.
The veteran driver, however, hailed the corporate world for showing interest in supporting motor sport in Zambia.
He said the recently held Samfuel national rally at Kitwe’s Mindolo Dam that saw over 20 entries was an indication of how motorsport in Zambia had grown over the years.
“I am glad that a lot of companies have shown interest in offering their support to us and I would like to thank them all for the tremendous job they are doing. We need to strengthen this partnership and ensure that racing is enhanced,” he said.
