SINGANI Women’s Club for the disabled in Choma has extolled President Michael Sata for his unwavering support to improving the living standards of physically challenged persons.
The club, comprising physically challenged women, who look after disabled children and orphans, were happy with President Sata’s passion to support underprivileged people.
Club chairperson Lena Munkombwe said the women were grateful to the Government for embarking on empowering people particularly the disadvantaged women in rural areas.
Ms Munkombwe said the vulnerable women had suffered for many years and were impressed with the current Government for empowering most of them regardless of their political background.
She was speaking yesterday when District Commissioner Bernadette Hamweemba presented a K4,000 women empowerment cheque from the Gender Ministry to the club, to purchase chicken feed and chemicals for 350 chicks that would be given to the club.
“As a club for disabled women, we are happy with the support of 350 chicks that Government wants to give us, which will help us massively to generate income,” she said.
Ms Munkombwe said that the women’s club, which was formed four years ago, comprised physically challenged women and it needed massive support from various stakeholders.
Handing over the cheque, Ms Hamweemba said that the 350 chicks would be given to the club as soon as the members procured the feed and chemicals.
She said that women empowerment had remained Government’s top priority in order to improve the lives of underprivileged persons.
Patriotic Front (PF) Singani Ward chairperson Sandford Mudenda said the handover of the chicks to the women club in the area would shame some people who thought the women would not be empowered.
