By BRIAN HATYOKA –

LOCAL Government Association of Zambia (LGAZ) president Mulenga Sata has called for the localisation of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) operations.
Mr Sata said this would allow for individual councils to handle issues such as recruitment of staff, if they had a local LGSC office.
He was speaking in Livingstone at the close of the LGAZ annual conference yesterday.
Mr Sata said LGAZ did not want an adversarial relationship with LGSC but wanted a collaborative relationship with the Commission and the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.
He also said there was urgent need to fight corruption and other malpractices in councils across the country.
Mr Sata urged councils across Zambia to promote a clean and green environment to make local authorities more attractive.
He said there was need for councils to plant more trees and use solid waste to generate sustainable energy for street lighting and other projects.
