A MAN in his 20s, has tragically died after falling from a moving truck in unclear circumstances in Kitwe.
The deceased fell off the truck and landed badly, crushing his head and dying instantly.
Copperbelt deputy Police chief Mukuka Chewe confirmed the tragedy which happened in the early hours of Thursday and named the deceased as Richard Banda, of Chingola.
Mr Chewe said the deceased was on board a Canter truck registration ACK 8387, which was being driven by his colleague, a 17-year-old male juvenile also of Chingola who had since been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.
He said the accident happened around 00:30 hours on Kitwe-Ndola dual carriageway near some house he did not mention.
Mr Chewe said the deceased for unknown reason was seated at the back and as the vehicle was moving, he accidentally fell off and landed horribly.
“It could be that the juvenile driver had stolen the vehicle and was pirating and had asked the friend to be collecting money from passengers or they had gone on a drinking spree when the accident happened,” Mr Chewe said.
He said Police were still investigating the circumstances under which the vehicle came into the custody of the juvenile driver.
In another incident, Mr Chewe said a fifteen-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital where he is admitted with severe knife wounds after being stabbed by a friend during a fight at a bar.
The boy identified as George Chibuye was stabbed on the right side of the chest and behind the neck before he was left for dead.
Mr Chewe said the incident happened on Wednesday around 21:00 hours at a bar called Chaya-Moss and named the assailant as only Aaron.
