MORE than 150 farmers’ group?s and cooperatives have received maize seed in Solwezi District, under the Farmer Input Support Programme.
District agricultural coordinator Muyobo Shimabale said out of? 400 farmers’ groups and cooperatives, only 150 had been able to get their maize seed, which was readily available.
Mr Shimabale said the farmers had since collected their maize seed, which was a clear indication that farmers are ready for the 2014, 2015 farming season.
He, however, appealed to the rest of the farmers to come on board and collect the maize before the onset of the rainy season.
Mr Shimabale said transport to ferry the maize seed to the farms was available and was confident that ?by the end of next week, most of the farmers would have received their inputs.
Solwezi district received ?6,500 bags of fertiliser out of an expected 24,500 bags and 3,460 bags of maize seed out of 12,000.
He said that it was there hope that they receive the remaining farming inputs.
