FORMER league champions, Red Arrows have now set their sights on a top eight finish after winning three matches in a roll to move out of the relegation zone with four matches remaining before the close of the 2014 MTN-FAZ Premier League season.
Arrows at the weekend beat National Assembly 1-0 and followed up with an identical win over Zesco United in a rescheduled Week 21 fixture on Wednesday to move from 13th to 11th on the log with 29 points.
Assistant coach Albert Kachinga, who praised his side for beating title contenders, Zesco 1-0, said finishing in the top eight was a mission impossible for the airmen, who at some point endured 11 match run without a win.
Kachinga said in an interview in Ndola on Wednesday at the Trade Fair Grounds that the team had put up a spirited fight to record a third victory in succession, said the recent victories Arrows had recorded were down to the players’ self belief.
“We are looking to the next game against Green Eagles, if we can pick up maximum points then we will try to push for the top eight because it is not impossible,” Kachinga said.
Zesco coach George Lwandamina said the title race was still open despite his team suffering a setback.
Evans Musonda scored an all important goal in the second minute as a revitalised Arrows side snatched maximum points off Zesco, who remain two points behind leaders Zanaco and one off third placed Power Dynamos.
Lwandamina said in a post match interview that Zesco were still in contention for the title with five games remaining.
He expressed disappointment that his men failed to take advantage of the fixture to go top of the league table.
