Zesco 0 Arrows 1
ZESCO United were yesterday denied an opportunity to go top of the MTN-FAZ Premier League table for the first time by Red Arrows who handed them a home defeat in a rescheduled Week 22 fixture.
The win lifted Arrows out of the relegation zone from 13th to 11th place on log on 29 points while Zesco were left to rue a missed opportunity after they remained stuck on third position on 49 points, two behind leaders Zanaco and one adrift second placed Power Dynamos.
Evans Musonda stunned the home crowd when he powered in from close range with just two minutes on the clock to hand the airmen the much needed victory in what has been a difficult season.
Midfielder Bruce Musakanya would have doubled the lead in the 15th minute but goalkeeper Jacob Banda was this time around equal to the task, pulling off a superb save to keep his side with a goal deficit.
Needing maximum points to go top of the table, the Ndola outfit upped their game after conceding the early goal with striker Winston Kalengo denied an equaliser in the 18th minute by an alert Ken Mumba in the Arrows goal.
Mumba’s impressive performance saw Maybin Mwaba’s 45th minute strike parried away as Arrows went into the break enjoying their advantage.
Nkana 0 Nakambala 0
At Nkana Stadium in Kitwe, KALUMIANA KALUMIANA reports that champions Nkana stayed fifth on the table after playing to a scoreless home draw against Nakambala Leopards.
The draw came just five days after Nkana suffered a 2-1 home loss to Nchanga Rangers. However, Nkana have now cut the lead between them and leaders Zanaco from nine to eight points on 43 points from 25 games played.
This game also saw midfielder Joseph Sitali make his debut for the reigning champions.
