HEALTH Deputy Minister Chitalu Chilufya will be among the 100 veterans that will battle it out during this weekend’s Zambia Chess Federation (CFZ) Golden Jubilee Veterans and Ladies Chess tournament in Lusaka.
Chilufya joins Justice Deputy Minister Keith Mukata and Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata who have also registered for the competition to be held at Chrismar Hotel on Saturday.
Tournament organising committee chairperson Nolias Kalinga said in an interview yesterday that about 100 veterans had entered for the tournament with a view to commemorate Zambia’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
“We are happy that 100 veterans, who also include the Health Deputy Chitalu Chilufya, Graham Banda, Humphrey Lwambula and Jerry Mwape among others, have entered for this tournament.
Our appeal is that more veterans aged 40-years and above and ladies to enter for this tournament as it presents an opportunity for them show case their talents and contribute to the development of chess in Zambia,” Kalinga said.
Kalinga said the CFZ had received a boost ahead of the tournament with Wonderful Industries Zambia Limited of Lusaka donating a 42 inch LED Samsung Television Set which will be a third prize while Ferro Allow of Kabwe will pay four months DSTV Premium subscription or cash equivalent for the second best lady finisher.
“We have also received four chess sets and a clock valued at K1, 400 from Suzyo Gondwe of Pro-Image Sports World of Chingola and we would like to thank the companies that have provided their support towards the hosting of this tournament,” he said.
