STANDARD Chartered Bank Zambia has pledged to help build the capacity, raise awareness and enhance the quality of business reporting in Zambia.
The bank hosted a workshop on financial and global markets in Lusaka yesterday, targeting business reporters and editors from the mainstream media houses in Zambia.
The main objective of the training was to empower Zambia’s business and economic journalists with expert information on the principles, concepts, products and current developments in the financial markets sector.
Standard Chartered Bank chief executive officer Andrew Okai said the bank was holding the workshop to empower Zambian journalists with expert knowledge on financial markets.
‘‘We are all aware of the ‘winds of change’ sweeping across Africa as the continent has experienced impressive growth rates in the last decade.
‘‘Zambia is no exception as this is a country that has experienced high growth rates and has attracted foreign direct investment. It is a country that has taken great strides in good governance,’’ Mr Okai said.
Mr Okai said the economic growth had stimulated progress in other economic sectors – banking, financial and capital markets.
The story of this progress needs to be told accurately and effectively.?‘‘Journalists play a significant role in telling this story to the Zambian people, to the continent and of course to the world,’’ Mr Okai said.
