A CONSTRUCTION company that built two water tanks in Luapula Province that collapsed just weeks later, has been directed to reconstruct the tanks at its own cost.
National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) public relations manager Rose Tembo said in an interview that Logistical Systems Construction Company has been directed to reconstruct the two water tanks that were built at of K1.5 million, at their own cost.
The two 500-cubic-metre water tanks were constructed in Mansa and Nchelenge and collapsed on June 10 and 17 respectively weeks after they were put up.
The project was part of the Danish International Development Agency funded projects for Luapula Water and Sewerage Company aimed at improving water supply.
Nchelenge does not have a treatment plant and the new tank was earmarked to store treated water from Kashikishi for supply in Nchelenge.
NWASCO was unhappy after the tanks collapsed and the National Council for Construction (NCC) instituted investigations in the workmanship of the project.
Ms Tembo said in an update that the contractor after investigations by NCC, was directed to go back on site and reconstruct the two tanks.
“The contractor is now back on site and they are going to reconstruct the two tanks at their own cost,” she said.
