By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA and MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –
LCC 0 Dynamos 2
PROMOTION-chasing Lusaka Dynamos stayed hot on the heels of FAZ Division One North leaders Nkwazi with this emphatic win over long-time town rivals, Lusaka City Council (LCC) away at Nationalists Stadium.
Trailing Nkwazi by five points but with a game in hand, Dynamos made sure they kept the ‘policemen’ in sight with goals from Syzyo Mwale and Moses Hamizi to move to 54 points.
And it couldn’t get any better as Dynamos this weekend hosts Nkwazi in the Showgrounds before facing Livingstone Pirates in a rescheduled game three days and victories in the two matches will see them go top.
Nkwazi beat Nampundwe 2-1 to maintain top slot on 59 points with six games remaining to the end of the season while the latter Nampundwe remain on 32 points and just four off the relegation zone.
Malaiti 0 City 0
Zesco Malaiti Rangers lost ground on the leaders as they were held to a draw by City of Lusaka to stay in fourth place with 48 points, three off Luena Buffaloes, who picked free points from none travelling bottom side Chipata Young Stars.
There was another goalless draw recorded in the match between Petauke United at home to Kafue Celtic while Mazabuka United managed a 1-0 win over Paramilitary to move to 27 points, just two off safety while Paramilitary in fifth might as well say goodbye to the promotion chase.
Tigers 2 Prisons 2
Lusaka Tigers rallied from two goals down to snatch a dramatic draw against Prison Leopards who seemed to have picked up a rare away win at Matero Stadium. Chris Njovu and Mathews Sichone scored late for Tigers to see their side move to 37 points, a point ahead of their visitors.
Other results saw Riflemen pick up a convincing 3-1 away win against struggling Zamcoal Diggers while Zesco Shockers impressive second half of the season saw them beat Livingstone Pirates 1-0 at home.
Kitwe 0-1 Forest
In the northern zone, Congolese defender Diego Apanene was on target as Forest Rangers snatched three points off Kitwe United to remain top of the competitive FAZ Division One North League for a third week running.
This week 28 fixture played in Kitwe saw Apanene scoring the important goal in the 39th minute to propel the Willie Nkonde coached side to 53 points at the summit of the log with six games remaining before the 2014 soccer season concludes.
The defeat left Kitwe in seventh place but13 points off the pace.
Wanderers 1-0 Kansanshi
‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers recorded their second straight home win at Shinde Stadium, thanks to a narrow victory over Kansanshi Dynamos.
Midfielder Sumbani Muwowo scored a solitary goal in the second half to ensure Wanderers remained on course to win promotion back to the Premier League to move to 51 points.
Muwowo’s goal came after Preston Musumali failed to convert a first half penalty much to the relief of coach Manfred Chabinga whose target is to win all the remaining games. Kansanshi are stuck on 40 points in eighth position.
Elsewhere, Chambishi collected maximum points off FQM Mining with a 2-1 home victory to keep up the pressure on the top two teams as they moved to 50 points into third position while Kalulushi Modern Stars dropped into fourth after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home Zesco Luapula.
Mufulira Blackpool and Ndola United drew 1-all while relegation threatened Grinaker brightened their chances of survival as they rose two places up from the bottom after snatching a shock 1-0 win over Gomes in Ndola.
Mining Rangers and Lime Hotspurs shared spoils after a goalless draw and the result was the same in the game between Premium Sports and Nkwiza as well as the match involving Chindwin Sentries and Lumwana Radiants.
