Mubanga shines at Karate tourney

MARTIN Mubanga of Kamuchanga Club shined during the Zambia Martial Arts (ZaMAA) Fallen Heroes Karate championship where he was voted best karateka after emerging as junior Kata and Kumite champion.
The tournament held at the Chawama Hall in Mufulira saw Mubanga walk away with a medal, MTN phone, certificate and a ZaMAA branded T-shirt.
Gibby Musonda finished second on the junior Kata with Proundy Chibuye of Chawama Club in third position. In the junior Kumite, Musonda again managed second place as John Kabanda of Kamuchanga finished third.
In other categories, Abraham Banda of Chawama Club won the sub-junior Kata with his twin brother Jeremiah finishing in second place to relegate Happy Mulenga into third place.
Michael Mwansa of Kamuchanga won the sub-junior Kumite while Jeremiah and Abraham finished in second and third positions respectively.
The senior Kata category was won by Lombe Lombe of Chawama Club as Kamuchanga’s Ernest Musenge and Marvin Phiri grabbed the second and third places respectively.
Musenga, however, bounced back strong winning the senior Kumite ahead of Phiri and Willard Sambwa.
Bisswell and Steve Silungwe of Chawama scooped both the eight years Kata and kumite categories.
Meanwhile, ZaMAA technical director Moodley Chola said the association has identified Abraham and Jeremiah for school sponsorship which will include school fees, uniforms, books and other school requirement for the year 2015.
Chola congratulated karateka Felix Chilengi, who received similar sponsorship for graduating with a diploma in law.
ZaMAA upgraded Danny Sinyangwe – Nidan (2nd Dan black belt), Marvin Phiri – Nidan (2nd Dan black belt), Youngson Chisanse- Shodan (1st Dan black belt), Rasswell Siwale (2nd Kyu Brown belt), Gibby Musonda (2nd Kyu Brown belt) and Proudy Chibuye (3rd Kyu Brown belt).
