ZAMBIA Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) president Sam Ching’ambu has said his association was planning to roll out the sport to all parts of the country.
Ching’ambu said in an interview that the Samfuel Copperbelt national rally that revs off at Mindolo Dam in Kitwe tomorrow was the starting point for ZMSA to have motorsport expanded.
He said the sport had undergone tremendous improvements over the past years and that there was need to have it expanded.
“As ZMSA, we would like to expand and grow. We were last on the Copperbelt about 22-years ago because we normally participate in Lusaka, Central and Southern provinces and we are happy that the rally is back,” Ching’ambu said.
ZMSA technical advisor Muna Singh said motor sport was one of the sports in the country that have delivered more silverware, having scooped a record 17 Africa rally championships.
Singh said with the growing popularity of the sport, it was necessary to have motorsport spread to other parts of the country.
He paid glowing tribute to the corporate world for their continued support to the development of the sport in Zambia.
“Rallying was dwindling many years ago and we used to have very few entries but this time around in a national championship, we are looking at 20 entries and above and I think with the support from the corporate world, there is nothing that can stop us to achieve our goal.
“So I think we need to stretch out our wings wider and not just concentrate on Lusaka and I am sure the number of entries will grow,” Singh said.
