CHIPOLOPOLO coach Honour Janza has tipped striker Emmanuel Mayuka to consider joining a club where he would be able to get more playing time than warming the bench at Southampton.
Janza also expressed worry at the performance of some Chipolopolo foreign-based players who have become bench warmers at their respective clubs.
Mayuka is yet to make a start under Dutch coach Ronald Koeman at Southampton in the Barclays English Premiership and was on bench as the Saints eliminated Arsenal from the League Cup following a 2-1 win at the Emirates on Tuesday night.
English Championship side, Wolverhampton Wanderers is reportedly interested in signing the former Kabwe Warriors striker, who spent last season at French side FC Sochaux on a loan deal.
Janza said in an interview in Lusaka after the Chipolopolo monthly training for local players that Mayuka needed to move for the betterment of his career progression unlike staying at a club where he was not playing.
“I am worried with most of our foreign-based players because most of them are not playing like Mayuka and Nathan Sinkala which is not good for them. If it is true that Wolverhampton have an interest in Mayuka, then I would advise him to join the outfit for him to have more play time, “he said.
Janza said Mayuka’s continued omission from the starting 11 at his club in more than five consecutive matches poses a threat to his football career and that he should find a solution.
“If an opportunity comes his way to join another club it will be better for him to take it and have more play time than sit on bench,” he said.
He said Mayuka was still a young and talented player and it would be necessary for him to move quickly to another club.
Mayuka was also an unused substitute in the Chipolopolo opening Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group F qualifier 0-0 draw against Mozambique and in the 2-1 defeat against Cape Verde.
Chipolopolo vice captain Stopilla Sunzu, goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, midfielder-cum-defender Chisamba Lungu are among the regulars at their clubs while the rest have been confined from starting from the bench.
