UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema will on Monday present himself before the police following summons issued on Friday.

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said at a Press briefing yesterday that his party was aware that Mr Hichilema would be charged with offences linked to the Constitution- making process.

Mr Kakoma, however, stated that the arrest of Mr Hichilema over the Constitution-making process would not yield anything saying Government should instead sort out the mess it had created.

Mr Kakoma also said speculations that its party president had run away following the summoning by police were not true.

He stated that the UPND leader was a law-abiding citizen who would never run away and assured that he would appear before the police tomorrow.

“Mr Hichilema is a law-abiding citizen who will not runaway. He will appear before the police at 10:00 hours at Woodlands police station,”Mr Kakoma said.

He also said that the Zambian people are not happy with the delay to enact the Constitution and therefore no political party or individual can incite them to pressure Government.

Mr Kakoma said that no individual or opposition political party was inciting some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to pressure Government over the Constitution.

Mr Kakoma called on Government to come to a round-table with all stakeholders over the Constitution- making progress.

“The solution lies in the Government to call for a meeting over the Constitution to chat the way forward, “he said.
