ZAMBIA got off to a flying start beating Mozambique by nine wickets at the opening day of the 2014 PEPSI-International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa WT20 Division 2 Tournament in Benoni, South Africa.
In a one-sided match played at Sahara Willowmore Park C Ground, Zambia raced to victory with 14 overs to spare.
Put in to Bat after Zambia had won the toss, Mozambique were bundled out for only 57 runs all out in 18.1 overs.
Mozambique had no answer to the Zambian pace and spin attack which was backed by some excellent fielding and they were back in the pavilion with 11 balls still left for play.
Bowling honours for Zambia were shared by Left arm Spinner James Zimba (Three Wickets for 11 runs), Left arm pacer Irfan Galiya (two wickets for 5 runs) and Left arm
Spinner Mohammed Mitha (two wickets for eight runs) Imran Patel and Himal Patel weighed in with One Wicket a piece.
Zambia knocked off the required runs for the loss of only One Wicket with opener Ashraf Lulat and Himal Patel, both undefeated, scoring 28 runs and 12 runs respectively.
Team manager Inayat Bagas expressed delight at Zambia’s performance and said the players were looking forward to their next game against Seychelles today.
