GOVERNMENT is ready to assist investors achieve their objectives provided they are in line with its efforts to achieve inclusive economic growth, Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge has said.
Mr Musenge said this during the week when he graced the opening ceremony of the Dutch Trade Mission to Zambia that was scheduled to run from Wednesday to today.
The minister, who commended the organisers for their decision to stage the event on the Copperbelt said Government welcomed the Dutch Trade Mission because the programme covered sectors that were critical to the country’s development agenda.
The trade mission that commenced in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) before proceeding to Kitwe, brought to the fore, Dutch companies involved in renewable energy, modular bridge construction, agriculture project development, asset based finance, diary equipment, passenger and cargo equipment, and industrial and municipal water systems.
Mr Musenge said Government’s desire was to diversify the economy, achieve inclusive growth and guard against adverse economic shocks.
He said Government had in the revised sixth National Development Plan for the country prioritised job creation.
Mr Musenge said agriculture, tourism, construction, manufacturing, and energy sectors were job creation target areas stressing that this was indicative of Government’s desire to diversify the economy from over-reliance on mining.
“Government’s efforts to create employment can benefit from enhanced trade and investment activities such as this Dutch Trade Mission programme,” Mr Musenge said.
Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) senior collector Stephen Mwansa told the Dutch delegation in a presentation that Zambia’s tax regime was conducive for investment.
