LAST Friday night at Mojo New Media, channel O award-winning Hip Hop artistes Zone Fam announced they are to release their second studio project entitled Barcode before the end of the year.
Since 2010 when they cut their music teeth , Zone Fam comprising of talented artistes Thugga, Yung Verbal, Dope –G and Jay Rox are acclaimed for their top charters such as Contolola and Kambama.
In an interview with DStv Entertainment, Reggie Mogane, lead member of the collection, says they have already penned more than 32 songs from which an album will be assembled.
“Though our main producer is still Shom C, we have incorporated international producers from South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria. We met with one of the Nigerian producers at the Channel O music video awards last year. This is an international producer who is also credited for producing Ice Prince’s music”, says Reggie.
The group attributes their success in the music industry to their manager Duncan Sodala, who has managed to at least help them reach top notch.
“We sometimes work as individual solo artistes, however, we are humbled that the international market has embraced our music as Zone Fam,” he adds.
Meanwhile, in keeping with their dream of working sometimes as solo artists, Jay Rox has released his solo video for a track called Auto Pilot.
The video was produced by Mojo New Media in Lusaka’s Olympia.
“As Zone Fam , we are the first artistes from Zambia to win at the Channel O music awards and this is something that we are proud of”, says Dope – G, another member of the youthful-boys band.
On their invitation to perform at the Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi, Zone Fam said: “This is another opportunity to market further Zambian music to an international audience … we understand that we are not just going their to represent ourselves but our country to the entire world”.
Zone Fam together with folk singer Mumba Yachi will headline the 10th edition of the Lake of Stars music Festival in Malawi’s Mangochi Town.
Recently, the youthful outfit were part of the audience at Arcades mall’s News Café for the shooting of an American Travel Channel programme dubbed ‘Dangerous Grounds’, a reality show hosted by Toad Carmichael.
