THE Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) has called for justice in a case where a Police officer at Pemba Police allegedly assaulted his wife following a domestic dispute.
Constable Richard Mufalo, of unknown age, who was in custody at the same Police station, allegedly assaulted his wife, Jackline Musho, 32, in the early hours of Thursday last week.?YWCA provincial coordinator Eric Sakala said the organisation was disappointed that, despite efforts being recorded to fight genderv-based violence (GBV), such cases were being instigated by Police officers.
Mr Sakala said in an interview yesterday that the alleged assault case of Ms Musho by her husband should be condemned and that justice should prevail over the matter.
‘‘As YWCA and other organisations, we are fighting GBV but it is disappointed to see a picture of that woman severely assaulted by her husband instead of resolving issues amicably,’’ he said.
Mr Sakala called on the Police command to ensure that the matter was taken to court.
Ms Musho, who sustained deep cuts on her face and neck, was rushed to Monze Mission Hospital for treatment.
Southern Province Police chief, Mary Chikwanda, who confirmed the incident, said Mr Mufalo allegedly battered his wife after returning home around midnight on the material day.
Ms Chikwanda said Mufalo, whilst in the house, allegedly started playing music loudly which prompted his wife to confront him over his behaviour and the two picked a quarrel.
‘‘The officer (Mr Mufalo) is currently in Police custody and soon a docket will be opened for him while investigations are underway,’’ she said.
Ms Chikwanda said that nobody was above the law regardless of their position and that people should always resolve issues amicably.
