Crusaders 45 Lunga 86
LUNGA Bullets over the weekend ran riot to maintain their lead at the summit of Zambian Basketball Association (ZBA) northern region league thrashing Kwacha Crusaders in the Week 18 fixture played at the Copperbelt University (CBU) courts in Kitwe.
The reigning champions, who have only lost once this season, posted an emphatic 86-45 victory to open a point lead over YMCA Stringers, who snatched a narrow 70-69 win over CEC Cavs to go 22 points, having played 12 games.
A defeat saw Cavs drop into fifth place on 15 points but with a game to spare.
Rejuvenated Ndola Nets extended their winning streak to three games after getting the better of CBU Comets to move a place up into fourth on 17 points, just a point behind third placed Comets.
Robins 30 Woosters 46 CBU Robins suffered a setback in their bid to win the feminine championship when they succumbed to a defeat at the hands of Lunga Woosters.
Woosters produced an outstanding performance to see off the Robins and maintained the chase on leaders CEC Queens, who lead the table on 18 points, five ahead of second placed Woosters. Robins are in third place on 11 points.
Cardinals 64 Blazers 58
The men’s league one saw Kamfinsa Cardinals prevail over their bitter rivals CEC Blazers in a clash of titans.
With a win, the Cardinals moved level on 22 points with Blazers but are relegated into second place on an inferior aggregate.
Other games saw Fairview Falcons maintain their third place on 20 points with a 57-41 win over MEF Fishers, who are sixth on 14 points.
Meanwhile, ZBA north vice president Andrew Nyirenda announced the disbanding of the men’s league one team Riverside Titans.
Nyirenda said the club had been disbanded following the move by the majority of its players to join other clubs in the league.
“Kamfinsa Cardinals started recruiting new players and the move prompted players at riverside Titans to join Kamfinsa because the club was offering better incentives and this resulted in Titans not having players hence the disbandment,” Nyirenda said.
