KANSANSHI Mining Plc has warned local contractors against engaging in unethical activities like bribery and kickbacks, saying that they risk being blacklisted from doing business with the mining company.
The mining company has also advised contractors to observe Government regulations by ensuring that they are compliant with statutory requirements for them to stand realistic chances of winning tenders.
In his presentation to the just-ended tender workshop for local contractors at the Royal Solwezi Hotel, Kansanshi Mining Plc commercial manager Andrew Hickman said the mining company did not want
to deal with unethical companies.
Mr Hickman said the mining firm abhorred any form of bribes, kick-backs and commissions to the employees at the mining company as appreciation for facilitating jobs.
He said contractors displaying unethical business attitudes would be excluded from all tender processes.
He further told participants, mostly members of the North Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NWCCI) that Kansanshi was strict with issues that compromise the ethics in doing business.
Mr Hickman said Kansanshi Mining Plc would not accept unprincipled business activities among the contractors, such as, persistently delaying to pay employees and suppliers, undeclared interest with the employees of the mining company, over-claiming, falsifying documents and continuously exhibiting poor safety performance.
Mr Hickman said if the contractors neglected to be compliant with statutory provisions, Kansanshi Mining Plc would not bother to consider their tenders.
He said for a contracting company to wish to do business with Kansanshi, it should have full and correct documentation.
Mr Hickman dismissed assertions that some contractors did not succeed with tenders at Kansanshi Mine because of corruption, favours to certain contractors, assistance being extended to executive committee members of NWCCI, political affiliation and tribe.- Story courtesy of SUMA SYSTEMS.
