THE organising committee of the Pespi International Cricket Council (ICC) Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers (CWCQ) has thanked various sponsors who came on board to ensure the event was staged successfully.
Organising Chairperson Haroon Ghumra said in a statement yesterday that the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) will this week present certificates of appreciation to the various companies for their contributions.
The Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) pumped in K45, 000 with the Ministry of Sports providing buses for internal use, Zambeef Products donated K15, 000 while Lusaka Hotel, Magnum Security Services and Mt Meru Group of Companies each contributed K10, 000 and Magic Advertising and Promotions Limited sponsored 160 identity cards for the players, officials, and umpires.
Ghumra, who is also ZCU life member, said appreciation will also be shown to non ZCU officials who served on the organising committee that also includes Ravi Devalia, Ismali Dalal, Aruldoss Nithya and Harapanahlli Rao.
Meanwhile, Ghumra has urged the Zambia senior team to train adequately for the Pespi ICC Africa Division Two T20 tournament to be held in Benoni, South Africa from September 20 to 26.
Ghumra expressed happiness that a strong team had been picked with a good number of the players having already represented Zambia before adding that the inclusion of budding stars like Musonda Yambayamba, a wicket-keeper batsman, and Kanswe Omala, bowler, was a move in the right direction.
“The selectors have done well to pick on these two players featured prominently in the Zambia Under-19 team that took part in the tournament held in Lusaka. I would like to urge the players to work hard and must remain physically and mentally,” he said.
