“MUYEREKA Nyirenda, do you take Lucia Zulu to be your lawfully-wedded wife?”, Dr Nyirenda answered; “Yes, I do.”

“I, Muyereka Nyirenda, take you, Lucia Zulu, to be my lawfully wedded wife.

With deepest joy I receive you into my life that together we may be one. As is Christ to His body, the church, so I will be to you a loving and faithful husband. Always will I perform my headship over you even as Christ does over me, knowing that His Lordship is one of the holiest desires for my life.

I promise you my deepest love, my fullest devotion, my tenderest care. I promise that I will lead our lives into a life of faith and hope in Christ Jesus.

Ever honoring God’s guidance by His spirit through the Word, And so throughout life, no matter what may lie ahead of us, I pledge to you my life as a loving and faithful husband.”

Then Pastsor Daniel Chunga turned to Lucia; “Lucia, do you take Dr Nyirenda to be your lawfully-wedded husband?”; Lucia answered; “Yes, I do.”

I, Lucia Zulu, I have loved you Muyereka Nyirenda, I have chosen you out of many that today I be wedded to you my husband.

That only of you shall my heart be glad. That in life’s greatest pleasure, I shall rejoice with you.

That in times of turbulence, strife and sorrow I shall forever remain true to my vows.

For today, I your missing rib come back home to you, let us forever be one! That God’s light be our guide. Faithful as long as we remain alive.

I pledge to you my undivided loyalty, I promise you my true love-the simplicity of a dove.

Let my tears be only of joy, let not sorrow cloud our tomorrow.

Let not the devil pierce this bond, nor poverty, diseases, nor deprivation or the corruption of this world vanquish our union, I give my heart to you Muyereke, take it for my love is true – And let it remain unchallenged that what God joined none can divide.”

Pastor Chunga then went; “I, as a minister of the gospel, by the powers vested in me by Government and the Church, declare you this day January 5, 2014, husband and wife, therefore, what God has put together, let no man separate.

What followed after that was ululation and shouts of Amen! Amen! from the congregation.

Thus, Dr Nyirenda and Lucia knotted in holy matrimony at Ndola Central Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Ndola.

Theirs was a unique ceremony, the couple being ‘Master Guides’ in the SDA choose to throw a befitting wedding with the officiating minister, the groom and his maids in Master Guide uniform.

A Master Guide is an Adventist member who has had undergone training in church governance, Biblical studies, health, survival skills and whole rounded-trained.

Such are conferred Master Guides upon completion and passing vigorous tests organised by the church.

Dr Nyirenda 29, is a resident medical doctor at Ndola Central Hospital, while Lucia is a registered nurse in the department of Paediatrics at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, the two have since become one.
