POLICE in Livingstone have arrested a 55-year-old business executive for allegedly forging and uttering documents in an attempt to illegally export maize. Livingstone Police chief Joseph Chitambo confirmed the arrest of Livingstone’s Touch Down Graphics Business Centre director Nelson Mwimbu. In an interview in Livingstone yesterday, Mr Chitambo said the suspect made the export documents for Madula Agro limited purporting that they were issued by the Ministry of Agriculture. Mr Chitambo said according to the forged documents, the transporter was supposed to export maize on six trucks, with each carrying 30 tonnes of maize into Zimbabwe. He advised Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and Immigration officers to intensify screening of documents tendered at entry and exit points of the country because white collar theft was on the increase. “Our police officers must also be on the lookout because there might be a lot more people involved in this scam,” Mr Chitambo said. He said with such kind of white collar theft, there was a likelihood of more maize having been exported dubiously and called on all relevant officers to be vigilant. Mr Chitambo said police were still investigating the matter and that Mr Mwimbu was released on police bond and would appear in court soon.
