ORIENTAL Quarries Boxing Promotion (OQBP) has raised K405,000 towards the K673,730 budget for the World Boxing Council (WBC) defence title promotion slated for November 22 at Government complex in Lusaka.
And WBC welterweight International champion Charles Manyuchi who is in Zimbabwe is expected in Zambia next week in preparation for his title defence against an opponent yet to be named.
OQBP Operations Manager Christopher Malunga said in an interview that organisers were in a K268,730 deficit which they are confident of raising before November 22.
“We are confident that the deficit will be met in good time because of the overwhelming response from the cooperate world,” he said.
Malunga revealed that a platinum sponsorship is worth K300,000 to K350,000 and that a partner has already come on board and will be unveiled soon.
He further said the WBC bantamweight champion Catherine Phiri was preparing adequately for her defence title and was ready to defeat her South Korea opponent Hee -Jung Yuh.
“I am very confident with both Catherine and Charles, I have been monitoring they performance in the gym, they are ready to defend their titles,” he said.
Malunga said oriental was contemplating introducing a boxing league to keep all their boxers active unlike the current trend of waiting for title fights.
“We have very talented boxers in our country but the problem is they are kept in active for a long because they only fight during title a fight which is not good for their careers,” Malunga said.
