LUSAKA Province Permanent Secretary Wamunyima Muwana has said the 2010 housing and population census findings released by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) will assist Government in planning for the
national budget.
Mr Muwana said the data would guide the Government in planning by providing necessary characteristics of the country’s population.
He said this in Lusaka at the dissemination of the 2010 population and housing census analytical and descriptive tabulation reports for Lusaka held at Pamodzi Hotel.
“Now that Government has the information it will be easy to plan especially for Lusaka province, we will know which area needs which services, especially that the province has grown with eight districts,” Mr Muwana said.
According to the Lusaka province analytical report, the population size of the Capital City has grown from 991,226 in 1990 to 2,191,225 in 2010.
The report says the population of Lusaka province had become more urban and the province had the highest population density of 100.1 persons per square kilometre.
United Nation Population Fund UNFPA country representative Mary Otieno commended Government for its unwavering dedication to ensuring that the 2010 census population and housing was made available to stakeholders.
Ms Otieno said the importance of assessing such dissemination exercise could not be overemphasised because the most important capital a society had was human capital.
CSO Director John Kalumbi said the dissemination of results for Lusaka Province was an achievement of the set objectives.
