AMERICAN’s world renowned vocal artiste, education activist, motivational speaker and pastor, Wintley Phipps performs tonight at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross,in Lusaka.
According to a statement from the United States Embassy, the free concert will feature Heritage Brothers, Chord 14, and ARTBEATS.
“The US Embassy welcomes American inspirational singer Wintley Phipps to Lusaka. He will put on free open-to air starting promptly at 18:00hrs.The concert is a celebration of the 5Oth Anniversary of Zambia’s independence with American freedom songs by the inspirational American vocal artiste and Grammy Award nominee.
Phipps, Sr. is a vocal artist, and founder of the US Dream Academy, Songs of Freedom Publishing Company, and Coral Records Recording Company.
He features a “booming baritone” voice, usually singing inspirational gospel music For his work at the US Dream Academy he has received numerous service awards, among them: The Excellence in Mentoring for Programme Leadership Award from MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnerships; the Oprah Winfrey Angel Network Use Your Life Award; and Philanthropist of the Year Award from The National Centre for Black Philanthropy, Inc.
For more than twenty-eight years, he has traveled the world delivering messages of hope, advocacy, and equality to many thousands of people.
A two-time Grammy Award nominee, Phipps is no stranger to performing in front of distinguished audiences. In addition to President Barack Obama, other notable listeners have included former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W Bush, former South African President Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and Oprah Winfrey. Phipps is also an internationally recognised speaker on behalf of the Dream Academy and young people, having completed speaking engagements in Europe, Australia, Asia,
Africa, and North and South America. In recognition of his positive global impact through speaking, The National Speakers Association awarded Wintley the prestigious Master of Influence Award.
The concert, which has been organised in conjunction with the National Arts Council (NAC) will go up 20:00 hrs.
