TALKING SHOP NEW copyTHE Lusaka City Council (LCC) should be commended for taking a firm stance by rejecting trading licences of people who intend to sell food and beverages in unsanitary locations.
The sale of food and beverages in poorly maintained areas should be discouraged as this puts consumers at risk of contacting waterborne diseases.
Local authorities in other provinces especially the Copperbelt should take a leaf from LCC by also closing existing restaurants and bars operating in unclean areas.

News that mealie-meal prices are expected to stabilise following the offloading of excess grain by the farmers is welcome.
The majority of ordinary consumers have over the last few months been at pains with accessing the staple food which was fetching as high as K80 per 25 kilogramme bag in some parts of the country.
In as much as Zambia is running a free market economy, stakeholders in the agricultural sector need to collaborate and find means of keeping the price of mealie-meal within optimal levels.
