THE Registrar of Societies has expressed happiness with the favourable response by churches turning up to register under the Societies Act.
Chief Registrar of Societies, Kakoma Kanganja said in an interview yesterday that he was pleased with the number of churches turning up to formalise registration.
Mr Kanganja said his office had received an overwhelming response from a number of churches turning up to register under the Societies Act.
He said this was after the recent raid of churches by the combined team of officers from his office and Immigration Department.
“When we went round, we discovered a lot of churches were reluctant to register with the registrar of societies and after we threatened them with closure, they have now started registering as required by the law,” he said.
Mr Kanganja said the only challenge faced his office was lack of adequate manpower and resources to cover every part of the country to monitor adherence levels.
