THE Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) has appointed Zambian administrator, Aloysius Phiri as director junior golf for Southern Africa.
Phiri, who is Zambia Junior Golf Association director, will be one of the regional directors to deputise South African, Gerhard Conradie.
Announcing the appointments in a statement in Kitwe yesterday, AGC president, Joe Malanji said Conradie, who is the South Africa Golf Confederation senior vice-president, would be in charge of junior golf development on the continent.
Malanji said Phiri would deputise Conradie in Southern Africa, while AGC would soon announce the northern region director.
“I wish to take this opportunity to formally appoint you as director junior golf for Africa Golf Confederation in charge of all junior programmes and you will be deputised by Mr Aloysius Phiri, who will be director junior golf Southern Africa, while we look for another director northern region, who will both work under you,” Malanji, the immediate-past Zambia Golf Union president, said in a letter to Conradie dated September 1.
He said having a junior golf director for AGC would help to establish junior programmes in countries like Mozambique where there was no active golfer below the age of 40.
The AGC president said it was the continental body’s hope that the Conradie-led directorate would yield the expected results in African junior golf development.
“It is my prayer that your (Conradie) directorate will yield a lot of success for junior golf development and please note that the appointment is with immediate effect,” Malanji, the first Zambian to hold a position in AGC, said.
