NEWLY appointed Justice Minister Edgar Lungu has set a new pace in the constitution-making process to ensure timely delivery of the national document.
The minister will in this vein today meet the Attorney General and Secretary to the Cabinet, to discuss the way forward on the Constitution-making process.
Mr Lungu told ZNBC in a news item monitored yesterday, that Government was committed to the Constitution-making process and today’s meeting with the Attorney General was an indication of that commitment.
“We will make sure that we deliver the Constitution but we will need all stakeholders to the process to be sober on this issue,”
“We should not be pushed on this issue because as you may know, we in Government are also people, give us a chance to work peacefully,” Mr Lungu said.
Meanwhile, the new Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General says the party will go flat-out to mobilise members countrywide in readiness for next general elections.
Mr Lungu said in an interview that there was need for his party to mobilise all the members and foster unity among party structures around the country.
He said this in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Lungu said the party would start the exercise immediately after conducting vigorous campaigns for the remaining five parliamentary by-elections which he was confident PF would scoop.
“My task is to ensure that all party structures are in place, so as soon as we finish these campaigns for the remaining Parliamentary by-elections, I shall ensure that we mobilise ourselves and foster unity among party structures,” He said.
Mr Lungu brushed aside assertions that that the party was cracking due to the exit of his predecessor Wynter Kabimba.
He said PF would not crack after the sacking of Mr Kabimba, because most party members’ loyalty was to President Michael Sata, who was the legitimate President.
“I don’t want to comment on other people’s opinions over their perceived PF cracking because as far as we are concerned, the structures are in place, what we need to do is to ensure that we go flat-out and mobilise them and not to leave any stones untouched,” he said.
Mr Lungu said the opinions of other people that the PF was cracking would not disturb party members from organising and mobilising the five remaining parliamentary and ward by elections scheduled for September, 11 this year.
