ZAMBIA has been readmitted in the Confederation of Southern Africa Schools Sports (COSSASA) ball games following accusations of age cheating and the hosts went on to put up a dominant display in football.
Having missed out on Friday action to pave way for investigations, Zambia was back in action yesterday thumping Namibia 3-0 in the Under-17 boy’s category.
The Under-13 boy’s team beat Namibia 1-0 but suffered an embarrassing 4-0 thumping to Botswana.
Meanwhile, Zambia School Sports Association (ZASSA) president Chipangano Tembo said in an interview that the host country have not been suspended and refuted allegations of age cheating.
Tembo said misunderstanding arose after some participating countries demanded for the Zambian athletes to produce passports and travel documents when it was not necessary as they were the host nation.
He said the matter has been resolved but that some players have been booted out after failing to be accredited.
“Zambia has not been suspended for age cheating as there was a misunderstanding concerning accreditation of athletes because some countries were demanding that we produce passports or travel documents.
But that was not necessary as hosts we relied on school identity cards and national registration cards, all that has been resolved and the Zambian teams are taking part in the competitions,” he said.
Games were by press time ongoing at OYDC and at the Lusaka Rugby Club where the rugby games were taking place.
In rugby, Namibia hammered Botswana 35-0 with Zambia beating Botswana 12-5 before losing 17-0 to Namibia in the selected games played yesterday.
