A FIFTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD Mkushi farmer has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl who was selling fritters within a village in the district.
The farmer identified as Dickson Mokola of Mwitwa village is alleged to have defiled the minor whom he found in his yard early this week.
The girl was scared going home after incurring a shortfall on fritters she was selling on behalf of her parents.
Central Province police chief Standwell Lungu said the accused who was arrested yesterday took advantage of the situation and dragged the girl into his house where he defiled her.
Mr Lungu said the incident happened around 18:00 hours and that the suspect has since been arrested and charged with defilement and would appear in court soon.
“I can confirm that a girl aged 10 was defiled by a 52-year -old man.
This was after the girl failed to go home for fear of being beaten by her parents after incurring a shortage on the fritters she was sent to sell and spent two days away from home,” she said.
The girl later went home crying and later reported the incident to her parents who in turn reported to the police.
