WHAT most Zambian reggae disciples of the late reggae legendary Peter Tosh knew was that they would only skank to the local tunes as there was no international artiste lined up for the memorial gig.
However, this is not to be the case as the Conscious sounds; organisers of the Peter Tosh Memorial show have made yet a fresh and somewhat uplifting announcement.
Germany’s Michael Ullmanm going by the name Diamond and Onions have confirmed participation at this year’s Peter Toshi show slated for the September 13 at Lusaka’s Munda Wanga Botanical Gardens.
The German artiste says he is happy to commemorate one of the greatest reggae artiste’s life in such a dignified, entertaining manner and that his fans should expect nothing less but an enthralling night.
“I am happy to be part of this show and I can anticipate a good turnout and good music … it will surely be a night to remember,” he says.
Kennedy Mutale, General Secretary of the Conscious Sounds tells DStv Entertainment that nothing has changed regarding the initial local artiste line up.
“What has just changed is the coming of the German artiste Michael, who is leading the Diamonds and Onions band. This is a massive inclusion to the show in the year of jubilee,” he says.
The local artistes billed for the show include, Jasper Mix, The Burning Youths, Cactus Agony Mwila, Banthu Roots, Mystic Africans, Crucial Lions, Zion Gates and Ras Ziggy.
This year 2014, counts exactly 27 years since the legendary reggae artiste was shot dead. Tosh was a Jamaican born and bred musician who along with other reggea kings such as Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer formed the band that came to be known as The Wailers.
‘Stepping Razor’ as he was fondly called by his huge fans, Peter later went on to establish himself as a successful solo artiste and a promoter of Rastafarian till September 1987 when he was killed.
