ZAMBIA Under-20 soccer team coach Hector Chilombo has declared his squad ready for this Saturday’s Senegal 2015 Africa Youth Championship final round, return leg qualifier against Malalwi.
Chilombo said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that his lads were ready to secure qualification for the continental youth championship where the team would start his quest to seal a place at the 2015 World Cup finals.
He said the players were not targeting at finishing the job when the two sides clash and would not allow the Malawians to score.
Chilombo expressed happiness with the determination and levels of commitment shown by the players in the 7-1 demolition of Airport Stars in a friendly game played yesterday at Nkoloma Stadium.
“We wanted to have a feel of the pitch at Nkoloma and the boys played well despite not having trained there since Monday. We are ready and want to qualify and we are one step to Senegal after the boys got that vital win in Malawi.
“We are not looking at the 2-1 lead we are carrying but focused on winning the match to get us the qualification. “My target is going beyond the Africa Youth Championship as I want to take my boys to the World Cup finals,” he said.
Chilombo said the players were ready for any tactics that Malawi would want to employ to win the match, especially that they have been good travellers in the competition.
“I know Malawi will want do everything to upset tables but the boys are aware that Saturday is marked for victory and will not take any chances. The players are in good shape and just waiting for the actual day,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Malawian team is expected to arrive in the country this morning at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA).
