THE move taken by the Zambia Immigration Department to start implementing electronic visa application will help to attract many tourists to the country, Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) managing director Felix Chaila has said.
Mr Chaila said many countries in Southern Africa, which were using the online visa application system, were attracting many tourists and hence the decision by the Immigration Department was timely, as it would boost the tourism sector.
In an interview in Livingstone, Mr Chaila said the introduction of the online visa application would simplify the processing of visas for people wishing to visit Zambia.
“I am told the Immigration Department has already started implementing the online visa application and we laud that move as tourism stakeholders.
“This is because the move will transform and impact on our foreign tourist arrivals like the case for other countries in the region,” Mr Chaila said.
According to the Zambia Immigration Department website, people coming from abroad can apply for a visiting visa by downloading it from the site.
The steps can either be performed in advance of arrival by mailing the forms to the appropriate Zambian Mission or have their information and fee ready when arriving at the place of entry.
