EIGHTEEN illegal immigrants from the 200 that were apprehended almost two weeks ago in a raid in Ndola, have been deported.
Immigration Department public relations officer, Namati Nshinka said in a statement yesterday that 17 Tanzanians and one Ugandan who were nabbed during an operation on August 13, 2014 in Ndola were deported on Thursday last week.
“The processing of cases for the others is ongoing,” Mr Nshinka said.
In a related development, Mr Nshinka said a Kenyan and a Pakistani were deported through Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola while a Congolese was expelled through the Sakania border for illegally staying in the country.
In Chingola, two Tanzanians and a Congolese were deported through the Nakonde and Kasumbalesa borders respectively.
Meanwhile, a Tanzanian and a Zambian are being held in Lusaka by the Immigration Department for fraudulently acquiring a Zambian identity card.
Mr Nshinka said the two were handed to the Immigration Department by the Department of National Registration, Passports and Citizenship.
The two are alleged to have fraudulently acquired a Zambian identity document.
Mr Nshinka also said the Immigration Department in Nakonde prevented entry of seven Tanzanians who were using duplicated travel documents.
