THIRTY-SEVEN Zambians have been awarded Chinese scholarships to study in various universities in China.
Education, Science, Vocation Training and Early Education Deputy Minister, Professor Nevelyn Wilombe has urged the students to work hard in order to excel in their studies.
Prof Wilombe said this during the farewell party for the 37 Zambians offered Chinese scholarship in Lusaka yesterday.
“Take this opportunity and privilege seriously to go and work hard in order to excel in your studies. You must be exemplary in your behaviour and conduct, for it is through personal discipline that you will be able to succeed,” he said.
Prof Wilombe said Government was sending ambassadors to China to represent the country and were expected to graduate with honour.
He said students must work towards strengthening the already warm and cordial relationship between Zambia and China.
“Observe at all times rules and regulations of China and work towards strengthening the already warm and cordial relationship between Zambia and China. Learn the Chinese work culture so that when you return home, you will share the same knowledge with the Zambian people,” Prof Wilombe said.
The 37 would take up studies in medicine, economics, pharmacy and engineering, with 22 of them at undergraduate level, 12 at masters and three at PHD level.
Meanwhile, Chinese ambassador to Zambia, Young Youming has congratulated the selected candidates and urged them to work hard so that after completing the degree programmes, they could help in the development of the economy of Zambia.
Mr Youming said there were more than 1,000 Zambian students including Government, corporate, and self-sponsored students who had studied or were studying in China.
