ABOUT five hundred jobs are expected to be created under the Pave-Zambia road project in Kitwe.
Kitwe District Commissioner Elias Kamanga said roads with a total length of 80 kilometres were approved for paving in the district under the Pave-Zambia project.
Mr Kamanga said preparations for commencement of the road paving project in the district dubbed ‘80-kilometre Pave-Kitwe’ had gained momentum, with Government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) having proposed the former roads’ workshop situated in the second class trading area as the site for a pavers manufacturing plant.
He said works for paving of roads in the district would start as soon as the pavers manufacturing plant was constructed.
Mr Kamanga said roads leading to key public institutions such as health centres, schools and churches among others had been selected for paving.
He said about 500 jobs were expected to be created for the youth in the district during the project implementation.
“This is a big project because it involves labour for manufacturing of pavers and also labour for the actual paving of township roads,” he said.
Mr Kamanga expressed happiness with the Pave-Kitwe project because apart from creating jobs for the youths, it would also add beauty to the outlook of the town.
