A TWENTY ONE-YEAR-OLD woman of Kitwe District has been raped at a named lodge by a worker after she fell in a drunken stupor during a drinking spree at the weekend.
The woman was raped after she drank her head off and fell asleep in the dining room where a worker at the lodge took advantage of her helpless position to strike.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Joyce Kasosa confirmed the incident, which happened on Saturday morning around 04:00 hours at a named lodge in Kitwe’s Parklands area.
Ms Kasosa named the assailant as Stephen Chungu, 32, of Kamakonde area who is currently on the run.
She said the woman was drinking from the lodge when she got drunk and fell asleep in the dining room.
Ms Kasosa said while the woman was sleeping in a drunken stupor, Chungu pounced and raped her before he bolted.
“The woman was raped from the dining room where she spent a night after getting drunk following heavy drinking,” Ms Kasosa said.
She said investigations were instituted and Police had since launched a manhunt for the fugitive, Chungu.
