Diggers 17 Arrows 10

‘MEN At Work’ Diggers completed a double over champions Red Arrows to move into second position on the Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) national league table after the Week 14 match played at the weekend.

Diggers, who earlier in the season beat Arrows 21-3 in a reverse fixture, moved into second position relegating the airmen into third position.

Surprise package Nkwazi maintained their top slot after beating Chibuluma 5-0 in a tightly contested match played in Lusaka to move up to 33 points, three ahead of former league winners Diggers.

Arrows, however, picked up a point in their defeat to move to 29 points to be just a point ahead of ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka, who closed up the gap after beating Green Buffaloes 16-12 in the Lusaka Showgrounds.

At the Diggers Playing Fields in Kitwe, Ackim Mushota and Ntumba Besa each placed a try with Beneya Mukwamba making the two conversions before adding on a penalty to propel Diggers to a famous victory over their arch-rivals.

Arrows managed a try by Paston Chola which was converted by Terry Kaushiku, who also managed to score a penalty for the visitors.

Lusaka 16 Buffaloes 12

Former winners Lusaka remained on course to challenge for the title after beating Buffaloes thanks to an inspired performance from Kapindu Nyanyu who scored three penalties with a converted try by Israel Kalumba.

In the B league, Nchanga thrashed Konkola 38-3 as Prison narrowly lost 11-10 to Mufulira while ‘Killer Bees’ Ndola Wanderers managed to pick up a 5-3 hard fought win over Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF).
