FQM SmallBy REBECCA MUSHOTA –

FIRST Quantum Minerals (FQM) and the Zambia Police have raised K82,000 to construct extra office units at Ndola Central Police Station.
FQM contributed K60, 000 while police officers raised K22, 000 to upgrade what was formerly a parking slot for bicycles and toilets and turn them into offices to mitigate the shortage of working space for police officers.
FQM Finance Manager Debbie Gatchell said at the handover of the offices on Wednesday that the company was happy to have helped out the police in their project to increase office space.
“Everywhere you go, you cannot find enough police officers because your services are very important and needed. We are happy to be a part of this development,” she said.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police, Joyce Kasosa said the number of officers continued to increase but the infrastructure development had remained stagnant.
Ms Kasosa said it was for that reason that police officers mobilised themselves to build more office space for the protective unit and the traffic unit.
She said she was happy that FQM responded positively to the request by police officers for help in decongesting the offices.
