K1m raised for CUCSA games

THE Zambia Federation of University and College Sport (ZAFUCS) has raised about K1 million towards hosting of the 17thedition of the Confederation of University and College Sports Association (CUCSA) Zone Six Games to be held in Lusaka.
ZAFCUS president Mwape Nshimbi said during a media briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the organising committee has so far raised K1, 040, 000 from its budget of K1.5 million for the tournaments slated forAugust 18 to 22.
Nshimbi expressed hope that the K460, 000 deficit will be raised before the games start especially that some companies have made pledges towards meeting the budget.
Countries expected to take part in the competition include South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia, Angola, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique and Botswana.
The Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) will play host to netball, volleyball, table tennis and athletics while the National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) will be venue for basketball with chess to be played at University of Zambia (UNZA).
The Lusaka Club will host tennis while football will be played at Sunset Stadium, Barclays Sports Complex and at OYDC.
Nshimbi said Zambian athletes are ready for the CUCSA games especially that expert coaches have been attached to drill them.
“The teams have been preparing well and some teams have been practicing for the ZAFUCS championships since in March this year. We are putting everything in place despite having challenges financially,” he said.
ZAFUCS has also partnered with Muvi Prism to show the games with station manager Biggie Mubita saying the station was honoured to be awarded the television rights for the games.
