A NDOLA man, who has been convicted for smoking marijuana, told Ndola magistrate’s court that he was using the drug to ease the pain caused by a sore in his rectum.
Chrispin Chibwe, 23, of House Number 1004 New Mushili told Ndola magistrate Chitundu Chongo that he was using marijuana to stop the pain caused by a sore in his rectum, which affected his sleep at night.
This is a matter in which Chibwe is charged with trafficking in psychotropic substances.
Chibwe was arrested on July 22, this year by Drug Enforcement Commission officers at Mushili Market in Ndola and that after searching him, found him with Marijuana in his pocket weighing 520 grammes.
In his mitigation, Chibwe told the court that he was taking marijuana because the sore in his rectum was so painful and that he could not sleep at night.
“I had gone to the hospital and they had put me on injections for five days but it did not seem to work so my friends advised me to start taking marijuana so that I may be able to sleep in the night,” he said.
Chibwe pleaded with the court to exercise leniency.
Ms Chongo sentenced Chibwe to five months in prison with hard labour starting from the date of his arrest.
